Grow in Community

Grow in Community

Sunday School

Every Sunday at 11 AM a team of gifted and devoted teachers make disciples of our children from preschool through high school using the Bible and their own example. Children 3 and under can join our nursery.

Ignite

Ignite is our Young Adults ministry where we get together after church every Sunday to study God’s word, encourage one another, hold one another accountable and more as we all seek to better love God, love other, and make disciples. Aside from Sunday’s we have periodic social events which are come as you are and have little “spiritual” content but are more focused on building community. We also seek to reach out to the larger community through service projects and prayer and evangelism efforts. For further questions please reach out to me at charles.ellis48@protonmail.com

Equip

For adults, we offer Equip, a group focused on tools for abiding in Christ and making disciples of Jesus. We focus on application of the word of God in our pursuit of knowing God and making Him known.

King's Kids

Every Monday from 6-8 PM is King’s Kids for ages 6-12. They learn to know God in a fun atmosphere led by loving leaders who teach Bible lessons, tell missionary stories, and play engaging games.

Youth Group

Our youth group meets on Wednesday evenings from 6-8 PM. We have an excellent team of adult mentors and teen leaders who serve our youth in a warm, welcoming atmosphere through discipleship, Bible study, service, and fun.

Community Groups

Find Community. Grow Together.
We all need a place to know and be known. Our community groups build one another up in prayer and encouragement as we seek to grow in knowing Jesus and following Him on His mission—to bring the gospel to our communities in both word and deed.

We open God’s Word together, learning how to apply His truth to our daily lives. We care for one another deeply as we partner to make disciples of Jesus.

Groups meet throughout the week in homes or at the church.

Reach Beyond

Reach Beyond

Prayer

Gospel ministry depends on devotion to prayer. We pray that God would open a door for the word to us and that we would make the gospel clear with words of grace and hearts filled with wisdom (Colossians 4:2-6). We pray that God will regenerate and redeem those that do not yet know Him. We pray along with the other churches of Greater Portland.

Consider joining one of the following gatherings.

Nursing Home Ministry

“Stand up in the presence of the aged, show respect for the elderly and revere your God.” – Leviticus 19:32

Our Nursing Home Ministry exists to honor and care for the elderly through monthly visits filled with music, Scripture, and genuine connection. Many residents face loneliness and memory loss, and our time with them brings comfort, joy, and the hope of the Gospel in their later years.

We sing familiar hymns, share short devotionals, hand out puzzles and stuffed animals, and most importantly—spend time listening and loving. Just an hour of your time can make a lasting difference.

No experience is needed—just a heart to serve. Help pass out hymnals, sing along, turn pages, or simply share a smile. Children and youth are also welcome to join and bless residents with their presence or musical talents.

Join us:
Cape Memory Care_ (Cape Elizabeth) – 4th Thursday, 2:00 PM

The Cedars_ (Portland) – 2nd Saturday, 10:30 AM

Whether you come in person or support us in prayer, you are part of this ministry.

Sneakers for Saccarappa

The Saccarappa Elementary School in Westbrook has a large population of children from homes that are economically disadvantaged.  Sneakers for Saccarappa exists to reach into this community and provide proper footwear for children’s activities (for children who do not have access to footwear) and to encourage teachers and staff at the school.  Staff at the school identify their needs and Community of Grace seeks to help meet those needs.  Periodic appeals to the church body for donations of sneakers and socks and monetary donations are made throughout the school year. Our goal is to identify other ways of encouraging the teachers at this school as we build this relationship.  There is always an opening for anyone interested in assisting with this process.

CEF of Maine

CEF is a Bible centered, worldwide organization, whose purpose is to evangelize boys and girls with the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ and to establish (disciple) them in the Word of God and in a local church for Christian living. The state office helps to coordinate activities among the regional Maine chapters and operate a full summer program of camping at Camp Good News. They offer teacher training and a training program (Christian Youth In Action) for teens interested in teaching children.

Transformation Project

Transformation Project Logo

The Transformation Project, located right here in Westbrook, addresses the root causes of addiction, incarceration, and brokenness by walking alongside individuals, equipping them to live in freedom, faith, and purpose. There are lots of ways to get involved: bring a meal for the weekly Bible study and encourage the group, become a mentor, provide a welcome gift for new residents, or give financially. We love partnering with a ministry that provides freedom, hope, and transformation in Christ to people wanting to do life differently. To find out how you can make a difference, click here .

The Root Cellar

Root Cellar Logo

In 1984, Munjoy Hill community in Portland was not a desirable place to live. Crime and poverty rates were high in the densely populated neighborhood, known as the “2nd Larges White Ghetto” in the US. A small group of Mennonite missionaries saw the need and responded by opening up a teen center in the dirt floor basement of a local church. The basement had been used as a root cellar for the community in previous years and the name stuck.

In 2001 we opened a 15,000 SQFT community center on Washington Ave in Portland. At the same time, we began to focus much of our ministry on responding to the needs of the growing immigrant and refugee community.

In 2006, we expanded to Lewiston, Maine’s 2nd largest city. Specifically, we moved into the Tree Streets Neighborhood. This diverse and gritty community is home to the highest density of poverty and youth in the state.

In 2012, the staff and board began to shift away from the charity model of “doing things for” the poor, to the development model of “doing things with” those in need. We now see our neighbors not as problems to be fixed, but as mutually encouraging friendships. We work together to seek the peace of our cities.

If you’ve felt stirred by the story and mission of the Root Cellar, consider this your invitation. Root Cellar continues to serve the most vulnerable in our cities by building relationships, fostering dignity, and walking alongside our neighbors. They are always in need of mission-minded volunteers—people with a heart to serve, learn, and love in practical ways.

If that sounds like you, reach out directly to Root Cellar to learn how you can get involved and help serve this incredible community.
